There will be a full closure of westbound Interstate 10 on the Bonnet Carre Spillway Bridge starting at 8 p.m. Saturday and running through 6 a.m. Sunday.

The closure is part of a $1.3 million project to upgrade emergency crossings for safer access for motorists in St. John the Baptist and St. Charles parishes.

Contractor Diamond Electrical Co. will install a dynamic message sign truss at mile marker 211.4, near the I-10 and I-55 interchange, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

As an alternate route, traffic will be directed to I-310, on to U.S. 61 and on to U.S. 51 in LaPlace.

The estimated completion timeframe for the project in its entirety is March.

All construction activity is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Motorists can access updates on real-time traffic and road conditions using the 511 Traveler Information System by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region on which they are seeking information. Additionally, real-time around-the-clock New Orleans traffic updates can be accessed via Twitter @NOLA_Traffic.
