News in brief: Wednesday blood drive benefits St. John Relay for Life

LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish is sponsoring a Blood Drive in honor of National Blood Donor Month. Those interested in helping can donate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the LaPlace shopping center parking lot near the former Radio Shack.
For each person who donates blood, United Way will give a $3 donation to the St. John Relay for Life team to be used toward cancer research and awareness. All donors receive a free “Find the Hero in You” coffee mug.

River Road closure Jan. 7, 8
GARYVILLE — River Road in St. John the Baptist Parish, between Louisiana 54 and Louisiana 3213, will be closed between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. January 7 and 8 to create a safety zone for hoisting a pipe bridge truss in place over River Road.
Recycle trees in St. Charles
The St. Charles Parish Public Works Department will pick up live Christmas trees for recycling curbside around the parish on Jan. 6 and 13.
Drop-off sites will also be available at the East and West Bank Bridge Parks in Destrehan and Luling until Jan. 20.
