LAPLACE — According to the National Weather Service, a risk of severe weather is expected for Southeast Louisiana this afternoon and evening through Tuesday, including St. John the Baptist Parish.

Storms approaching from the west may bring heavy rainfall with additional threats of damaging winds, large hail, isolated tornados, lightning and localized flooding.

The threat of severe weather is expected to diminish after Tuesday.

Residents should use caution when on roads and prepare at home for inclement weather.

Residents are asked to remove any debris from catch basins and storm drains and avoid placing debris in ditches, drainage canals and on the side of the road that may impede drainage.

The St. John Parish Emergency Operations Center is monitoring weather forecasts for any changes. The Public Works and Utilities Departments will make preparations for severe weather and remain on call through the weather event.

Residents should report any issues or concerns during the rain event to 9-1-1.
