RESERVE — A local man is facing numerous drug dealing charges following his arrest this week, an apprehension authorities said was linked to two raids in May that already netted one arrest.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Jamal Joseph, 29, of Reserve Monday at a home in the 200 block of East 12th Street in Reserve.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said detectives utilized crime cameras to capture several individuals’ criminal activity who partnered with Eugene Schofield Jr. in the spring.
“Detectives observed Schofield and other individuals handling and loading a semi-automatic rifle in the presence of juveniles at a residence in the 200 block of East 13th Street in Reserve,” Tregre said in a release. “After handling the firearm for several minutes, video shows Schofield wrapping the weapon in a towel and carrying it inside his residence.”
After Schofield’s arrest May 6, detectives investigated other individuals identified in the surveillance video, eventually obtaining an arrest warrant for Joseph, who Tregre said police identified as the other individual posing with the firearm.
Joseph was booked this week with possession with intent to distribute MDMA, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and possession of firearm/carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon.
He is being held in custody in lieu of a $102,500 bond.
