DESTREHAN — A LaPlace driver was involved in a fatal crash Monday that claimed the life of a Jefferson Parish woman.
A Louisiana State Police report indicates 20-year-old Angelica Matamoros of Kenner was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry on U.S. 61 at approximately 6 p.m. and, for unknown reasons, crossed the center median into the northbound lanes.
The Toyota was struck by a 2002 Honda CRV, driven by 23-year-old Norman Porter of LaPlace. Matamoros was not wearing a seat belt, according to Trooper Melissa Matey, and was ejected as a result of the collision.
After being ejected, Matamoros was struck by a 2014 Ford truck, driven by 28-year-old Justin Hunter. Matamoros was pronounced dead on the scene, Matey said.
Porter sustained moderate injuries and was taken to University Medical Center. Hunter was not injured.
Preliminary investigation indicated impairment is not suspected; however, toxicology results for Matamoros are pending an autopsy.
Blood was taken from Porter and Hunter, and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is performing toxicology tests. The crash remains under investigation, Matey said.
