Joseph Gregoire Caire, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Edgard.

Joe graduated high school from St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis, Miss., and served in the U.S. Army during WWII (1945-1946). He met Sharey, his beloved wife of 66 years, while studying at LSU.

Sharey and Joe were married in 1950 and settled in Edgard. Joe had a lifelong career manufacturing sugar and molasses at Caire & Graugnard in Edgard. He was a volunteer fireman and devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

For over 60 years he attended retreat at Manresa Jesuit Retreat House.

He was the beloved husband of Sharey Ethridge Caire; loving father and father-in-law of Terry and Dap Powell, Randy and Debbie Caire, Ginny and Mike Baranovic, Bill “Truman” and the late Linda McCormick Caire, Ruth and Mark Chapin, Joe and Eva Caire, and Linda and Brian Hargrove; and son of the late James Joseph Caire and Henriette Webre Caire

Papa cherished his 16 grandchildren, Leigh and Jacob Powell, Allison Aucoin, Ben Caire and Jeanne Amadon, Michael and Stephanie Baranovic, Seth and Matthew Chapin, Ellen, Cecilia and Sally Caire, and Lois, Faith, Mac and Mary Claire Hargrove, and his four great-grandchildren, Pascal, Beatrice and Julia Aucoin and Joe T Caire.

He is survived by one brother, Edward Caire, and was predeceased in death by his sister, Martha Hymel, and brothers James, Henry and Roland Caire.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2349 Highway 18 in Edgard, on Friday, Oct. 28 at 11:30 a.m., followed by interment in church cemetery.

Visitation is at church from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m.
