LAPLACE — East St. John High School students recently cleaned cages while also helping wash, feed and walk animals at St. John the Baptist Parish Animal Shelter on West 2nd Street in LaPlace.

Leah Deloch, Sr. Beta club sponsor, said club students volunteered Sept. 17 as part of local action following national direction.

“The National Beta Club’s motto is ‘Let Us Lead by Serving Others,’ and ESJH has taken this belief and embodied it into our way of thinking, revamping our image and ideology in the process,” Deloch said.

Deloch said club students hope to complete at least one service learning project a month.

As an Xavier University of Louisiana alumna, Deloch said she believes in the value of giving back to the community, which aligns with Beta principles.
