Cool music, great food highlight Andouille Festival

LAPLACE — Delicious food choices and great bands were boasted this week by the organizers of the 43rd Annual Andouille Festival presented by Marathon Petroleum Company, who announced 24 food vendors and 17 entertainers have been selected to participate in this year’s festival.
Festival fun takes place Oct. 14 – 16 at Thomas F. Daley Memorial Park on U.S. 51 in LaPlace.
“Each year, the Andouille Festival aims to bring together parish locals and visitors,” St. John the Baptist Parish President Natalie Robottom said.
“With the wide variety of food options and performances, we wanted to invite everyone to join in our parish tradition.”
Three acts are scheduled to take the stage Friday night/Oct. 14 including Gina Brown & Anutha Level performing from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers playing from 8 to 9:25 p.m. and Bag of Donuts closing things down from 9:45 to 11:45 p.m.
The live music continues from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Oct. 15 with seven bands performing, including New Birth Brass Band from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Amanda Shaw & the Cute Guys from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Off The Hook from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m., IMAGE from 7:45 to 9:15 p.m. and Karma from 9:45 to 11:30 p.m.
The music continues Sunday from 8:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. and includes Category 6 on stage from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Organizers said food vendors highlight the festival namesake, andouille, in their dishes as well as local cuisine and festival favorites.
Vendors will have a wide range of dishes including crawfish-andouille egg rolls, fried alligator wrap with crab bits and fries, andouille jambalaya fried meat pies, fried andouille chips, crawfish monica, andouille corndogs and boudin balls.
Additionally, festival posters are available for sale online and at the St. John Parish Economic Development Department, Matherne’s Supermarket in LaPlace, Don’s Supermarket and Greg’s Supermarket in Reserve.
