LAPLACE — Authorities made an arrest this week following the reported sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in St. John the Baptist Parish.

Ryan Denet, 18, of LaPlace turned himself in Tuesday and is charged with second-degree rape. He remains in custody in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

The investigation began almost a year ago, authorities said, when deputies met with a woman and her daughter who reported the 13-year-old daughter was the victim of a sexual assault.

The victim told deputies the sexual assault occurred Oct. 2, 2015, while at a party with friends at a residence in New Era Subdivision in LaPlace.

“After a complete and thorough investigation that included laboratory analysis of evidence, detectives obtained a judicial court ordered arrest warrant,” a release from Sheriff Mike Tregre said.
