LAPLACE — Sunday marked the one-month countdown to Night Out Against Crime.

This year the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office is encouraging residents to “Turn St. John Parish Blue” to show support for St. John officers and law enforcement agencies across America.

Through Night Out Against Crime on Oct. 18, Sheriff Mike Tregre is asking all residents and businesses to change their porch lights to a blue bulb.

“Please tell your family, friends and neighbors about this event,” Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Angel Thompson said.

“Not only will this symbolize the support of law enforcement, but also take a stand against crime in our parish.”

Blue lights are available for purchase at numerous local home goods and hardware stores.
