DESTREHAN — The River Region Chamber of Commerce is rolling out the green carpet.

The local network of businesses will hold its ninth annual golf tournament Oct. 21 at Cypress Lakes Country Club in Destrehan.

The annual event is the organization’s largest fundraiser, according to executive director Chassity McComack.

“The tournament is hosted in conjunction with local businesses to raise money for the Chamber’s annual operating expenses, with a portion to benefit continuing education for local students,” McComack said.

“This event is truly one of the Chamber’s signature events that brings a group of people together that normally wouldn’t have the opportunity to meet otherwise. Historically, it has grown significantly in the number of players and food sponsors on the holes.”

Ricky Cheramie, who co-chairs the event, said there were 320 golfers on 80 teams last year. They had the choice of more than 27 food and drink vendors throughout the course. The event included tent cook-outs, door prizes and networking opportunities.

“It’s a real fun time,” Cheramie said, adding this year’s event is a few weeks later than last year’s.

“We hope the weather is a little cooler,” he said.

Individuals may participate for $200. There are various sponsorship opportunities, ranging in price.

The funds raised go toward the Chamber’s annual operating expenses as well as two scholarships, one to South Central Louisiana Technical College-Reserve Campus and one to the River Parishes Community College in Gonzales.

“The Chamber is so thankful for our generous volunteers, sponsors and businesses that donate time and resources to help make this fundraiser a success,” McComack said. “Each year keeps getting bigger and better.”
