DESTREHAN — Assistance For Single Parents is hosting a “SHOW ME THE MONEY” seminar Saturday thanks in part from a $10,000 grant received from St. John United Way and $10,000 from Entergy Waterford 3.

The SHOW ME THE MONEY seminar starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall of the St. Charles United Methodist Church, 1905 Ormond Blvd in Destrehan. To register, please visit www.AssistanceForSingleParent.org.

Guest speakers will teach single parents how to improve their credit score, make extra money and take advantage of tax credits.

There will be discussions on budgeting, financial risk management and much more. All participants receive a $25 savings deposit certificate from the Louisiana Federal Credit Union to help jump-start their savings.

“We are so thankful to have the support and backing of amazing organizations and companies like St. John United Way, Entergy Waterford 3, the Louisiana Federal Credit Union and others,” Executive Director Debra Rieder said. “Without this financial backing, AFSP could not offer this seminar; or other programs like the School Uniform Giveaway, Reboot Your Power – Employment Seminar, Free Legal Workshops, or our single parent support meetings.”

Assistance For Single Parents (AFSP), a local 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is dedicated to assisting employed single parents and their children with empowerment, supportive services and resource referrals…primarily those families caught in the “governmental gap” of working poor and underemployed.
