Friday afternoon, at approximately 12:30 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on I-10 near Louisiana 3188.

The crash claimed the life of 27-year-old LaPlace resident Markesha Williams and left 30-year-old Rachelle Jackson of LaPlace in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation indicates Williams was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry east on I-10 and lost control of the vehicle. The Camry ran off the road to the right and struck a message board sign on the passenger side.

Williams was transported to a local hospital where she later died. Jackson was transported to University Medical Center with critical injuries.

At this time, it is unknown if either of them were wearing seat belts. Impairment is unknown and a toxicology test is pending an autopsy. Troopers believe excessive speed may be a factor.  The crash remains under investigation.
