NORCO — The communities of Norco and Destrehan and beyond have rallied around the family of Norco resident Sam Steib.

He is the son of Allison and Danny Steib of Norco and the nephew of Destrehan High School principal Stephen Weber.

Steib, 21,  was partially paralyzed after injuring his neck in a diving accident in Gulf Shores, Ala., earlier this month.

After several weeks in a Pensacola hospital, he was transferred to a rehab facility in Houston.

Community members turned out in droves Sunday for a benefit lunch held at the K.C. Hall in Norco. In addition to jambalaya and pastalaya plates, there was a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle and various items for sale.

Supporters also could sign up for a softball tournament that will benefit the Steib family. A local charter fishing company is raffling off a $4,000 charter fishing trip.

Last week River Road Market in Destrehan donated all the proceeds of its weekly Steak Night to the Steib family.

Friends also have set up a GoFundMe page at Gofundme.com/2sqcsu44.

Donations also may be made at any Capital One branch.
