Keller: Our strength shines in embracing all we can handle

When going through a trial, did anyone ever tell you that God won’t send you more than you can handle?
Years ago, during one of the darkest periods in my life, I remember jogging on the levee early one morning.
It was drizzling and, while talking to God with tears in my eyes, I questioned Him about sending me more than I could handle.
I ran into St. Peter Church crying and told Him, “You have overestimated me. I’m tired and I don’t know what to do.”
It was at that moment that I surrendered to God, knowing that I wasn’t in control.
After I became a Christian and started reading the Bible, I realized His Word says that He allows trials in our lives to humble us in ways we need to be humbled.
I’ve had many other trials since then and I remind God that I didn’t enjoy any of them, but I thank Him for seeing me through each one.
I now realize that God loves us so much that He allows trials to get our attention and helps us to grow spiritually.
I’ve heard it said that when we are tested we have three options.
We can rebel against God, rationalize and make excuses, or accept the correction and get back on the right track.
The problem with many people is they don’t understand God’s unconditional love for them.
He loves us just as we are, but allows trials for us to become the children of God for which we were created. When you are being corrected, that’s God’s evidence of His love for us.
God has a purpose for each of us, and our trials will make us realize that He is in control.
In Proverbs 20:28-30, God’s Word says, “The glory of young men is their strength; of old men, their experience. Punishment that hurts chases evil from their heart.
Today, I thank God for my experience in every trial. I know I needed the correction with His unconditional love.
