New St. John Sugar Queen gets crowned Aug. 13

RESERVE — The St. John Sugar Queen will celebrate its 68th year of pageantry with the presentation of “Once Upon A Time” Aug. 13.

The pageant, sponsored by the St. John Sugar Queen Committee and St. John the Baptist Parish, will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at St. John Theatre in Reserve.

A deserving young lady will be awarded the honor of representing St. John Parish at the State Sugar Festival in New Iberia. Tickets will be on sale from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the Theatre lobby.

The box office opens at 5:45 p.m. Aug. 13 for ticket sales. Tickets are $12 a person.

The Sugar Pageant is one of the premier events of the parish, organizers said, adding it helps promote pride in St. John.

“Our queens have always been outstanding ambassadors, showcasing the spirit of St. John Parish at home and in statewide competition,” organizers said.

Miss St. John Parish Sugar Queen the 67th Darian Marse, Teen Queen Jade Brady and the St. John Parish Sugar Queen Committee invite all community members to celebrate the crowning of the new queens.
