LAPLACE — With recent events in mind, Kim Guidry said he feels local law enforcement personnel and first responders don’t get the credit they deserve.
That’s why Guidry, the general manager of Riverland Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram LaPlace, decided to put together a way to say thank you.
The local car dealership will hold Law Enforcement and First Responders Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the dealership located at 601 Belle Terre Blvd. in LaPlace.
“It just occurred to me after the issues that happened in July that, on a day-to-day basis, people in the community really don’t give enough credit to the way our law enforcement and first responders protect us every day,” Guidry said. “I thought it would be good to set aside a day for those people to come by with their families and have some free food and enjoy some games and let the community come by and shake their hands and say ‘thank you.’”
While the details are still being worked out, Guidry said the event features Brian Larche’s award winning jambalaya, music, free snowballs, soft drinks and inflatables for the kids. Photos with the famous Carfox also will be available. In addition to prizes available from other local retailers, Riverland also will offer law enforcement personnel and first responders a certificate good for $500 off the lowest price of any car in stock and certificates for a free oil change on their vehicles.
The event is open to the public
“You don’t have to be a police officer or first responder to attend,” Guidry said. “We want the public to come out. It’s a chance for us all to get together and show our appreciation for them. ”
