LAPLACE — The Port of South Louisiana’s quarterly PortLog journal and website redesign were recently recognized by industry leaders for excellence.

The American Association of Port Authorities announced the recipients of the 2016 AAPA Communication Awards Program this month, setting the stage for recognition at the AAPA’s 105th Annual Convention and Expo in New Orleans later this year.

The Port of South Louisiana recently contracted Renaissance Publishing Company to implement quarterly editions PortLog, which is distributed to more than 3,000 companies around the U.S.

In the past, Port leaders said they seemed to have a lack of name recognition even though Port of South Louisiana is the largest tonnage port in the Western Hemisphere.

The Port sought to increase awareness and solidify its identity, especially within the conscious mind of its target audience — those in the maritime industry, like shipping agents, freight forwarders, barge companies and site selectors.

Port leaders say they have seen an increase in PortLog readership with positive response since the publication went quarterly.

In March, Port of South Louisiana also launched its redesigned portsl.com, with aims at versatility and aesthetics.

The end product delivered by Curran & Connors, which worked closely with the Port’s business development department, was a modern, mobile-friendly site with enhanced features, easy navigation and improved search capabilities that highlights the Port of South Louisiana and the region, economic development information for potential investors, and resources for site selectors, industry, companies, government officials and the community.

The 2016 AAPA Communications Awards Program utilized 48 professional public relations practitioners who cumulatively spent nearly 200 hours judging the 15 classifications of entries.

The Port of South Louisiana received two Awards of Merit.

Winning entrants in American Association of Port’s 50th annual Communications Awards Program will be recognized at an Oct. 26 awards luncheon in conjunction with 105th Annual Convention and Expo in New Orleans, which runs Oct. 23-26.
