Keller: Great nephew could round bases for Team USA

My nephew, Ralph Boe, and his wife, Linda, have three children, 11 grandchildren and live in Denham Springs.

We don’t visit very often, but we keep up with each other by monthly phone calls.

I called him the other day and said, “Congratulations! I moved you to the top of the list. You are now my favorite nephew.”

We laughed and after a short conversation, he said, “Let me share something that I know will interest you. My grandson, Cade, was in Florida last week to try out for the U.S.A. “15 and under” baseball team.

With much excitement, he said, “He made the cut and was chosen as one of the 40 players who will travel to North Carolina and spend a week there as the final team of 20 boys will be chosen. The team will then go to Japan for a few games.”

I was very excited about Cade having a chance to make the team. That would be such a great experience.

Looking at the bigger picture of life, Ralph said, “This morning as I was cutting grass, I prayed and told God, ‘If making the team will not give Cade an opportunity to be a witness for You, please shut it down now.  However, if he can be used by You, let him make the team.’”

Who is Cade?

He will be a sophomore this year at Denham Springs High School. He plays center field, has pitched a little, and was the leadoff man, because of his speed and is a consistent contact hitter.

Shortly after the season, he had offers from LSU and ULL. This week, he committed to play at LSU.

His parents are Richard and Jennifer Doughty, who have two other sons and two adopted little girls from China.

Richard played baseball at LSU as a catcher.

They are a Christian family, not in name only, but live their lives as Christians should.

Ralph and Linda have raised their children with Christian values. They have made two trips to the Holy Land and are active in their church.

The Bible says that you will be known by the fruit of your labor. They have produced fruit that is well pleasing to their Heavenly Father.

Getting back to Cade and the baseball team. Whatever the outcome, Ralph and his family will be able to accept it and move on to another chapter in their exciting life.
