Keller: Start strong with Serenity Prayer

Many years ago, while attending a 12-step peer support group to help with my drinking problem, I was introduced to the Serenity Prayer.

It was a prayer we repeated at every meeting and one that I repeated many times during my struggle to live a sober life.

Repeating it was easy, but having it become a part of my life was the problem.

The three words Serenity, Courage and Wisdom are the keys to a successful, balanced  life, knowing that only God is in full control.

The following by Reinhold Niebuhr expands and explains that short prayer:

God, grant me SERENITY to accept the things I cannot change, COURAGE to change the things I can, and WISDOM to know the difference.

Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time.

Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace.

Taking this world as it is, not as I would have it.

Trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will.

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next.

That prayer would be great for anyone as we start each day.
