Charles “Sleepy” Richard

Charles “Sleepy” Richard, 86, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016.
He was a native of Reserve, a resident of Springfield for 22 years and more recently he resided at the S.E. Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve.
Charles was a W.W. II Veteran where he served in the 11th Airborn Division as a paratrooper while stationed in Japan. He was a union carpenter, was employed for Godchaux Sugar Refinery for 10 years and finished his career as a carpenter.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He loved to hunt, fish and play his bass guitar more recently with the River Rats.
Charles was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen Simoneaux Richard; loving father of David Richard (Dee Dee), Roger Richard (Lois), Terry Richard (Kathy), Kent Richard, Kitty R. Villeret (Mike) and the late Marsha Roussel (Gary Sr.); grandfather of 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter E. and Leonie B. Richard, and siblings Ethel R. Ockman, Evelyn R. Simon, Elma R. Jarreau, Peter E. Richard Jr. and James O. Richard.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his many friends at the V.A. Home.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, 2806 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace on Tuesday, July 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 13 from 9 to 11 a.m.
The Funeral Mass will immediately follow at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1550 Highway 44 in Reserve.
Interment is in St. Peter Cemetery.
