RESERVE — For the second year in a row, two Riverside Academy baseball players have signed to continue their playing careers.

Rebels catcher Brandon Morris signed last week with Baton Rouge Community College and outfielder Tyler Gauthier signed Tuesday with Delgado Community College.

“It’s a big deal,” Riverside coach Frank Cazeaux said.

“It’s one of the reasons we do what we do, to keep the kids playing and help them try to further their education. It’s something we are excited about as a coaching staff.

Morris said, hopefully, Riverside Academy would have two more players sign next year, “or more.”

Morris hit .338 in 80 at-bats, finishing with 27 hits, six doubles, seven home runs and 26 RBIs.

He was named to the Coaches All-District 12-2A team as a catcher, named to L’OBSERVATEUR’s All-St. John team as a utility player and was noted as an honorable mention on the Class 2A All-State team.

Gauthier hit .352 with six doubles.

He was named to the All-District 12-2A team as an outfielder, the All-St. John team as an outfielder and was an All-State honorable mention.

“It’s a great opportunity for both of those guys,” Cazeaux said.

“Are they ready to play at the Division I level? No, but I think they’re ready to go play junior college ball for a couple of years and maybe get ready to play Division I baseball.”
