LAPLACE — No suspects have been named after a man was shot Sunday while returning to his car after attending a family birthday celebration, authorities said.
According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 1 a.m. Sunday to the 300 block of West 2nd Street in LaPlace after gunshots were heard in the area.
Deputies were told someone had been shot at the scene. Later deputies were notified that a 33-year-old male victim was at Ochsner health center’s emergency room in LaPlace.

“For investigative reasons, we aren’t releasing where in the body he was shot,” Clement said. “We don’t have any suspect information at this time and no arrests have been made. The investigation continues.”
Authorities are not releasing the name of the victim, Clement said, adding he was the only one injured in the shooting.
