Students in grades fifth through eighth were treated to nachos and hot dogs, had their pictures taken at the selfie station and got their faces painted as part of the Honor Roll Roundup and Education Lunch celebration.

Aspen Murphy, community relations coordinator for Marathon Petroleum Company, said Marathon and the River Region Chamber of Commerce said this was the first time they teamed with the school district for the round up.

“This is the first honor roll round up they have had in 10 years,” Murphy said. “This was our third year doing the education luncheon, so we decided to combine them. We had 311 students from fifth through eighth grade. The other grades couldn’t come because they had testing.”

Superintendent Kevin George said the students in attendance are fine examples of excellence.

“Not only are these students on the honor roll for the first grading period, but also the second grading period and the third,” George said. “I know they will be on the honor roll for the fourth grading period, as well.”

The district students, principals and teachers of the year were also recognized.
