Narcotics activity leads to Cardinal Street drug investigation, arrest

LAPLACE — One arrest has been made and others are expected following a weeklong investigation into illegal narcotics activity on Cardinal Street in LaPlace, authorities announced Friday morning.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Angel Thompson said detectives initiated a narcotics investigation last week after receiving a complaint of ongoing drug activity in the 200 block of Cardinal Street.
Over the course of the investigation, detectives identified Kendall Smith, 35, of Cardinal Street as a suspect.
A search warrant was obtained, and a search was conducted at the residence, Thompson said, resulting in the recovery of crack cocaine, marijuana, MDMA, methamphetamine, hydrocodone and drug paraphernalia used in the sale of illegal narcotics. Authorities reported the value of the recovered narcotics at approximately $2,000.
Smith was booked Wednesday with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute MDMA, possession of methamphetamine, possession of hydrocodone and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He remains in custody in lieu of an $116,500 bond. According to Thompson, detectives anticipate making more arrests in the case.
