LAPLACE — A LaPlace man remains in jail after he broke into a residence and hit his ex-girlfriend in the face with a gun, authorities said.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Brandon Duhe, 30, of LaPlace Thursday in the 500 block of Fife Lane in LaPlace.
He was arrested in connection with a March 24 home invasion and altercation that took place at a residence in the 100 block of Northwest 12th Street in Reserve.
Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Angel Thompson said a 35-year-old female victim told deputies a male subject forced entry into the home and pointed a handgun at her and a 30-year-old male victim at the residence.
“The suspect hit the female victim in the eye with the opposite hand of the gun (hand),” Thompson said.
“The male victim was not injured.
“The suspect then fled on foot.”
Sgt. Dane Clement said at the time of the assault, the female victim, 35, was at the home with a male friend, an 18-year-old daughter and several other children.
“It is fortunate that the victim was not injured more severely and no one else was injured,” Clement said.
Authorities identified the victim as the suspect’s ex-girlfriend. Along with striking his ex-girlfriend in the face, Clement said Duhe caused other damage to the home by entering the residence through a window.
Clement said authorities aren’t sure if the suspect’s end goal was to injure his ex-girlfriend or not.
Based on information received detectives located Duhe and made the arrest without incident.
Duhe is charged with aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon, aggravated burglary, home invasion and simple criminal damage to property.
He is being held in lieu of a $74,000 bond.
