Man shot in stomach while walking

LAPLACE — A Reserve man was shot while walking in LaPlace after an unknown number of assailants targeted him Sunday, police said.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Ochsner campus in LaPlace at 6:55 a.m. Sunday after a man walked in the emergency room for treatment of a gunshot wound to his stomach.

Deputies identified the victim as a 36-year-old Reserve man, adding he was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The Sheriff’s Office announced Monday the condition of the victim is unknown.

On Sunday, the victim told deputies he was walking near Elm Street and Joe Parquet Circle in LaPlace when an unknown man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt approached and shot him.

The victim went to his sister’s apartment seeking help, adding perpetrators fled to the railroad tracks.

The victim’s sister drove him to the emergency room.
