RESERVE — One teen learned that even when school is not in session it’s still illegal to have a weapon on campus.

According to authorities, after five teens entered the property of a vacant residence they made a trip to East St. John Elementary School where they were arrested for trespassing, among other things.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at 12:15 p.m. March 12 to the backyard of a vacant residence in the 700 block of Belle Pointe Boulevard in Reserve. The complainant saw subjects existing a rear window of the residence.

Sheriff Mike Tregre said the subjects left the area on foot and went towards East St. John Elementary.

“Deputies found the subjects on the campus of the vacant East St. John Elementary School,” Tregre said.

“As deputies began to investigate the complaint, one of the subjects fled. After a brief foot pursuit and as the deputy apprehended the subject, the subject threw a handgun that was in his possession.”

Sgt. Dane Clement said weapons are not allowed on campus, adding authorities do not know what Dominik Johnson, who detectives believed had a gun, planned to do with the concealed weapon.

Clements said the teens did not have permission to be on the campus and authorities are unaware as to the reason they were there.

“There is no indication that they were trying to break into the school,” Clement said.
