Keller: Use day’s first minutes to set tone

I believe that the big majority of people in this most prosperous country God ever created, are miserable.

Why?

Because most of us have a tendency to allow two days to rob us of the victory that God wants us to enjoy on our journey to eternity.

Those days are yesterday and tomorrow.

We are either looking back and regretting the past or planning the future that is not promised.

Proverbs, Chapter 27:1 states, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.”

The message is to enjoy one day at a time.

Today is called the present; it’s a gift to enjoy.

Does that mean we shouldn’t plan for the future?

No.

We should plan like we will live forever, but live today like it could be our last.

The secret to enjoying each day is how we spend the first five minutes when we wake up. That can be related to a good speaker who understands that the first five minutes of a speech can set the tone for the message that follows.

The first five minutes of each day should be focused on pleasing God.

He is a positive God, but the Bible says He is also a jealous God.

He wants our attention to be on pleasing Him and not man.

The bottom line is that everything we do should be as though we are performing for an audience of one and that one is God.

With 1,440 minutes in a day, the first five are the most important.

Spent wisely, they could determine how we enjoy life, influence others and be confident that we will spend eternity with our Heavenly Father.
