DESTREHAN — St. Charles Parish Hospital held a ribbon cutting Wednesday to celebrate the new Plantation View Medical Offices in Destrehan.

Officials said this facility offers urgent care medical services and primary care with additional services to soon include OB/GYN, pediatrics, urology and pharmacy services.

St. Charles Parish Hospital CEO Anthony DiGerolamo said the project is a vital investment that will strengthen the health care system in the parish.

“We are proud to have a destination in the community that offers health care access to our residents close to home,” DiGerolamo said. “With the support of our local government officials and the community, this concept became a reality. As additional medical specialties are introduced, access for our residents will only increase.”

Plantation View Medical Offices includes 72,000 square-feet medical office building, located at 13100 River Road.

The project began in 2013 when the 4.3 acres site was donated to St. Charles Parish by British Petroleum America for the purpose of investing in the community and addressing critical needs.

In 2014, St. Charles Parish Hospital broke ground to build the medical and business retail space. The first service introduced to the community in February was through a leasing opportunity with St. Charles Urgent Care, and officials said physicians are already caring for patients. Ochsner Primary Care is also available to offer care in the region.

St. Charles Parish Hospital Board Chairman John Landry said the hospital team’s goal has always been to be the premier medical provider in the region.

“We take that commitment seriously because families rely on us,” Landry said. “The Plantation View Medical Office facility advances our reach in the number of people we can care for and furthers our vision to continually improve the care we provide.”

St.  Charles Parish President Larry Cochran said having access to health care on the East Bank brings job growth and economic development.

“Since this building also features non-medical retail opportunities, we believe it will spur development for existing businesses looking to expand, as well as for new businesses looking to relocate,” he said.
