Farmers Market promises tasty treats

DESTREHAN — Smiley Anders, The Advocate slice-of-life columnist, will be at the German Coast Farmers Market from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday to sign copies of his books, “Best of Smiley” and “Smiley! A laughing Matter.”

Anders, who has been writing for The Advocate since 1979, was named the first Communicator of the Year by the Public Relations Association of Louisiana, and his column has won first place in the Herb Caen Award category by the National Society of Newspaper Columnists’ annual contest on five occasions.

In addition to the book signing, special activities include a visit by the Easter Bunny, an Irish-themed cooking demo at 10:30 a.m. by Chef Blaine Guillot of St. Charles Parish Hospital and a sign-up booth for the American Cancer Society/St. Charles Parish Relay for Life.

The German Coast Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday morning at Ormond Plantation in Destrehan.
