LAPLACE — A 4-H Sewing and Fashion Club is being formed in St. John the Baptist Parish with a plan to meet once a month to work on sewing projects, while building friendships and well-rounded youth.

Organizers said the Club is a great opportunity to learn a valuable and useful skills while forming relationships with caring adults.

If your child is interested in joining 4-H or this club, contact 4-H Extension Associate of St. John Parish Victoria Kendrick, at 985-497-3261 or vkendrick@agcenter.lsu.edu.

As a precursor to the club’s formation, a 4-H Sewing Workshop took place March 5 at the Reserve library. The workshop was led by volunteer Katrina Levron, with assistance from her granddaughter, Alicia Perret, and Robbie Tomeny, Eula Young and Coleen Laiche.

Participants learned the parts of the machine and how they operated before practicing making stitches on paper, learning to turn corners and sew in circles.

4-Hers turned a placemat into a caddy with pockets, then moved into making a reversible headband.

They learned proper pinning skills, how to cut from a pattern, and how to iron.
