EDGARD — Kevin Alexander, 22, of Reserve, pleaded guilty to manslaughter this week, receiving a sentence of more than three decades in prison, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Clerk of Court’s Office.

Alexander was arrested July 20, 2011, and booked with second-degree murder following the killing of Lacohen Watson, 21, of Mt. Airy, two days earlier.

At the time, the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Watson was shot to death in the 200 block of East 14th Street.

The Clerk of Court’s Office indicated Alexander’s second-degree murder charge was amended to a manslaughter plea Monday, leading to 40th Judicial District Court Judge J. Sterling Snowdy sentencing Alexander to 32 years in jail.

Attempts to reach St. John Parish District Attorney Bridget Dinvaut and Sheriff Mike Tregre this week for comment were unsuccessful.
