St. John under Flash Flood Watch, Wind Advisory

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for all of Southeast Louisiana including St. John the Baptist Parish until noon Saturday in advance of heavy rainfall predicted for the next four days.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday. Repeated and prolonged rainfall of four to seven inches is possible through Saturday in addition to strong winds.

Locally heavy rainfall can lead to ponding of water in roadways and low lying areas if inundated with rainfall over a short period of time. Public Works crews have made preparations for possible severe weather and will be located throughout the Parish to respond to issues if they arise.

Residents are asked to continue removing debris from catch basins and storm drains during breaks in rain events and securing loose tree limbs. Residents should use caution when on roads and should not drive vehicles into areas where the water covers the roadway as water depths may be too deep to allow vehicles to pass safely.

The St. John Parish Emergency Operations is monitoring the weather forecast for any changes and additional alerts and encourages residents to do the same.
