RESERVE — Attendees can look forward to a classic variety show with storytelling through song and monologues.
That’s the message co-director Kate Kuen has for fans of “Broadway on da Bayou,” a variety show taking the stage at St. John Theatre this week.
Kuen said hosts will usher the audience and performers from number to number in a professional and comic Broadway style rooted in bayou and river influence.
Directed by Alina Gordillo and co-directed Kuen, the show will be presented in old vaudeville style at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at St. John Theatre. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children and can be purchased at Allied Express in LaPlace.
Tickets can also be purchased at the St. John Theatre Box Office one hour before show time.
“I love the vaudeville style, because it showcases individual talent,” Kuen said. “It is very brave to get up onstage alone and say, ‘This is me! I have a story to tell!’ Many shows in a traditional structure showcase a few lead characters. This variety show allows every performer a chance to shine individually.”
Kuen said cast and crewmembers have dealt with a short rehearsal process, two directors and three tornadoes, and “they are still smiling, professional and enthusiastic.”
“I am nothing short of blessed to be working with a cast and crew that rolls with the punches so gracefully and dynamically,” she said.
