2 killed in St. James Parish due to weather

CONVENT — At approximately 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the St. James Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness received notification of a possible tornado in Convent near the Sugar Hill RV Park.
Emergency responders are on the scene and assessing damage and injuries. If you live in the area of Sugar Hill RV Park and are OK, please contact the dispatch center at 225-562-2200. Additional updates may be issued as more information is obtained from the scene.
Authorities have reported two people were killed and several people were injured Tuesday at the location. Acadian Ambulance has taken 30 injured individuals to area hospitals. About 100 RVs/trailers have been damaged at the RV park.
Parish Government is setting up a shelter at the Lutcher Senior Center located on 2631 Louisiana Avenue in Lutcher.
St. James Parish officials continue to monitor weather conditions and have been in contact with the National Weather Service and the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security to receive the latest weather forecasts. It is imperative that residents monitor local weather stations for any weather updates.
