Fruit production symposium planned

Gonzales — The LSU AgCenter is conducting a Backyard Fruit Production Symposium for homeowners who would like to learn more about growing fruits in the home garden.
The symposium will be presented by local Extension Agents Mariah Simoneaux and Craig Roussel from Ascension and St. James Parishes, along with Dr. Raj Singh, LSU Plant Pathology Professor.
Topics covered will include general fruit production practices and insect and disease management. Following indoor presentations, pruning and fertilization demonstrations will be conducted in the demonstration fruit orchard at Lamar Dixon Expo Center.
Crops to be covered include blueberries, blackberries, citrus, figs, grapes, apples and pears.
The symposium will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. March 3 at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center, 9039 St. Landry Road in Gonzales. All interested homeowners are invited to attend.
