St. John warns of severe weather threat

LAPLACE — Beginning Thursday afternoon and continuing overnight Thursday, parish officials warn showers and isolated thunderstorms including a slight risk of severe weather and strong winds are expected for Southeast Louisiana, including St. John the Baptist Parish, as a cold front pushes through the region.
The main threats will be possible damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes.
In addition to the severe weather threat, rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches will be possible. Residents are encouraged to clear yards and drains of any loose materials and debris in preparation for inclement weather and use caution when venturing outdoors.
St. John Public Works and Utilities crews will be on hand in the event issues arise with drainage and utility systems. Colder and drier weather is predicted for the weekend with the threat of rainfall to return after Sunday.
