Keller: Coach Detillier exits LHS with legacy of integrity

Very few successful people, regardless of their profession, have the wisdom to close a chapter in their book of life and move to the next.

Coach Tim Detillier, by no surprise, is an exception.

Last week, he decided to move on, excited to see what God has planned for him and Wanda.

Tim has coached the Lutcher Bulldogs for the past 25 years, winning four State Championships since 2003. He also was head coach at St. Charles High School for six years.

Spending 31 years as a head coach would have been miserable without the love and support of his wife, Wanda. She truly has been the key to her husband’s success.

Being recognized as a great coach is one thing, but being a mentor to the kids he coached was a blessing, not only to them, but to their parents and the people of St. James Parish.

Coach Tim was a competitor and liked to win, but his personal agenda was never placed before what was best for each player.

He is considered to be a successful man, and rightfully so, in the profession he chose.

His name and records will be listed for years in the library of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA), accomplishments that I’m sure are humbling to Tim and his family.

His record of 266-112 is the most wins of any football coach in River Parish history.

His decision to leave the coaching ranks that he loves was to spend more time with his family.

He and Wanda have three children and two grandchildren, with another one on the way. That’s what God would call having your priorities in order. Being a faithful husband and a role model for his children and grandchildren will leave a legacy of integrity to his family and the people who know him best.

Yes, Tim will have his name in the record books of Louisiana athletics.  However, knowing Tim, I believe the book he is most concerned about is the Lamb’s Book of Life.

I’m convinced his name is in it.
