Malcolm Harry, 19, of LaPlace was arrested Dec. 29 after speaking with detectives at the St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division.

According to Sgt. Dane Clement, Harry spoke with detectives voluntarily and was booked with simple rape, which could include different types of sexual intercourse where the victim does not give consent.

If one or more of the circumstances set out by the state are believed to have been violated, the incident is categorized as simple rape.

Deputies began their investigation after responding to a residence in Edgard at 8:07 p.m. Dec. 26 after the mother of a 21-year-old female reported the possible rape.

Harry, who authorities said is a family friend of the victim, was visiting the residence prior to the incident, Clement said.

The call was put in less than an hour after the incident occurred, Clement said, adding Harry fled the scene on foot.

Clement said the Sheriff’s Office is not releasing where in Edgard the incident occurred in an effort to keep the identity of the victim hidden. After the incident the victim did report to a local hospital to receive treatment, Clement said.

Whether the female victim was intoxicated or impaired at the time is not being released, Clement said.

“After the detective did his investigation, he deemed that there was a violation,” Clement said. “That is when he sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Malcolm Harry.”

Clement said Harry cooperated with the investigation when met with detectives.

Harry was released Thursday after posting a $15,000 bond.
