Roundup: Lady Comets start hardcourt season strong

LAPLACE — The St. Charles Catholic Lady Comets are off to a good start to the season.
After a victory over St. Martin’s on Tuesday and a loss to Dunham on Wednesday, the Comets boast a record of 11-3. In the game against Dunham, Lela Hill and Madeleine Murphy both scored 16 points. Caroline Julian added six points and Shelby Britt scored 4. Heaven Mamou added 3 points and Kayla Johnson scored 2.
The Comets were scheduled to host Central Lafourche on Friday.
West St. John
West St. John girls basketball coach Lester Smith was all set to take his team to this weekend’s St. James basketball tournament. Then the St. James football team earned itself a trip to the Class 3A state finals against Lutcher.
To accommodate those wanting to go to the football game, the tournament was moved from Friday, Saturday and Sunday to Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The Lady Rams took advantage of that to take a 53-51 win over Parkview Baptist on Wednesday to improve to 4-2.
Maya Trench led with 25 points. Jaquana Hunter and Lakendra Lewis both scored 13. On Thursday West St. John lost to Donaldsonville 66-49.
East St. John
East St. John is scheduled to participate in the St. James Tournament this weekend as well. The Lady Wildcats (4-4) lost to Landry-Walker 65-29 on Thursday and were set to play Ehret on Friday.
Riverside
Riverside Academy competed in the St. Martin’s Tournament last weekend, notching a 44-37 win over Grace King and dropping a 43-29 loss to Episcopal. The Lady Rebels defeated Ben Franklin 47-23 on Thursday to improve to 5-2.
