Longtime County Agent Rene Schmit celebrated

DESTREHAN — A special retirement celebration for Rene Schmit, former LSU AgCenter County Agent for St. Charles Parish, was recently held at the German Coast Farmers Market in Destrehan.
Schmit was presented with an original painting by Market board member and local artist Donna Nassar, and a special farewell cake.
Patrons, vendors, board members and members of the Louisiana Master Gardener Program were on hand to show their appreciation to Schmit, who has been a loyal Market supporter over the years and was instrumental in helping to establish the inaugural Market in June of 2003.
