State Police Spokesman Bryan Lee said Region 1 Narcotics Troopers arrested 26-year-old Tyler Jasmin of Vacherie Wednesday for numerous counts of obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by fraud, altering a prescription and possession of a schedule II controlled dangerous substance.

Jasmin is the District 6 representative on the St. James Parish School Board.

According to authorities, Troopers received a complaint from a St. James Parish pharmacy that Jasmin was attempting to fill a prescription that had previously been filled at another pharmacy.

Lee said detectives conducted an investigation into the complaint and learned Jasmin filled the same prescription Aug. 22 for 16 Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetaminophen tablets at seven different pharmacies in St. James and St. John the Baptist Parish.

“On Oct. 8, 2015, Jasmin used another prescription for 16 Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetaminophen tablets at two different pharmacies in St. James Parish,” Lee said.

“Through further investigation, LSP Detectives confirmed that Jasmin fraudulently presented copies of his original prescription to numerous pharmacies in order to obtain additional narcotics.”

Detectives obtained a warrant and arrested Jasmin Wednesday.

He was booked into the St. James Parish Prison on four counts of obtaining a control dangerous substance by fraud, four counts of altering a prescription and four counts of possession of a schedule II controlled dangerous substance.

Jasmin, a St. James High School graduate, represented a change of face on the St. James Parish School Board in 2014, when the political newcomer was voted into office to serve District 6.

Jasmin defeated fellow candidate Freida Boughton by collecting 756 votes, compared to Boughton’s 676 votes.

Jasmin and Boughton were running for the seat occupied by School Board President Charlie Nailor, who chose not to seek reelection amid concerns about his residency.

According to the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office, Jasmin posted an $80,000 bond using property Thursday and was released from jail.
