Food author signing books at Farmers Market

DESTREHAN — Local author Judy Walker will be signing copies of the new edition of “Cooking Up a Storm: Recipes Lost and found from the Times-Picayune of New Orleans,” Nov. 14 at the German Coast Farmers Market in Destrehan.

Located on the grounds of Ormond Plantation, the event will take place between 9:30 and 11:30 am.

Signed copies are $30, payable by cash or check.

The book is being released in hardback for the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Richard Kiral, Ormond Plantation’s executive chef, who was recently featured on the nationally syndicated show, “Flip My Food with Chef Jeff,” will prepare a recipe from Walker’s book during a live cooking demo at 10:30 am.

The Market will feature a full line up of vendors, live music by Blanch Newsome, fresh fall produce, craft vendors, a St. Charles Parish Library display/used book sale and an LSU AgCenter Master Gardener’s advice station.

The German Coast Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday in Destrehan and from 2:30 to 6 p.m. every Wednesday in Luling.
