RIVER RIDGE — The Riverside Academy Lady Rebels were defeated Thursday night by the John Curtis Christian Patriots in River Ridge.

“It was a really close match,” Riverside head volleyball coach Margot Frederick said. “It could have gone either way, but in the end we made too many errors.”

Riverside lost three of the four sets played— 15-25, 24-26, 13-25, but won the third set 25-23.

“We should have won the second set,” Frederick said. “We were 24-20, needing only one more point to win, but then they came back and quickly scored six points. We made errors. You’re not going to win a match when you make that many errors.”

Frederick said her team did have some good moments.

“We did a lot of good things during the game,” Frederick said.

“We thought that as long as we take care of our side of the net we’ll be fine. We played pretty hard and we played pretty well. We were aggressive, but the errors got to us.”

Riverside’s Sydney Joseph had 15 kills for the night. Maddie Duhon had 16 digs. Abby Bourgeois dished out 22 assists and Kate St. Pierre scored 3 aces.

“We’ll do better next week,” Frederick said. “We play at home on Tuesday against St. James and we play Haynes (High School) on Thursday and on Saturday we’ll play at Riverdale in a Tri with Riverdale and St. Martin.”

East St. John

The East St. John Lady Cats (11-12) lost 2-3 against the Thibodaux High School Lady Tigers (8-7) Thursday.

In the away conference game, ESJ was defeated in the close match 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 21-25 and 6-15.

The Lady Cats won Wednesday against Landry-Walker High School (7-12) 3-0. The Lady Cats were victorious 25-14, 25-19 and 25-18.

St. Charles Catholic

The St. Charles Catholic Lady Comets (9-10) defeated the St. James High School Lady Wildcats Thursday 3-0.

“We were trying new positions for some of the athletes,” coach Meghan Ericksen said. “We tried to spread out our attacks among everyone in the front and back rows, really trying to limit the number of free balls we give out.”

The Lady Comets overwhelmed St. James 25-7, 25-14 and 25-17.

Grace Mohon had six kills, three aces, one block and three digs. Maddie Murphy added five kills, three aces, one block, 16 assists and four digs.
