GARYVILLE — St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives identified the man found killed this week in Garyville.

Sheriff Mike Tregre said the homicide victim found Wednesday is Kentrell Hayes, 26, of St. John the Baptist Parish.

Authorities confirmed the identity with the assistance of the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory through fingerprint analysis, Tregre said.

Local deputies began their case Wednesday, responding to the 300 block of Sherman Walker Street in Garyville at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday after a man was reported possibly dead next to a residence.

“Upon arrival, deputies located a victim of an apparent gunshot wound,” Tregre said. “The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.”

Authorities did not immediately release details of the crime scene.
