HAHNVILLE — Crime in St. Charles Parish fell two percent during the first six months of 2015 when compared to the same period in 2014, authorities said.

The F.B.I. tracks crime in seven categories nationwide, including murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft and auto theft. Uniform Crime Reports indicate that overall crime in St. Charles Parish decreased from 914 in 2014 to 897 in 2015, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

“While two percent does not seem like a lot, you must consider the fact that total U.C.R. crime in 2014 represented a 20-year low in St. Charles Parish,” Sheriff Greg Champagne said. “The numbers thus far in 2015 show that the trend of lower overall crime is continuing, and that is a very good thing.”

Champagne said he first gives credit to the “hardworking” and “highly trained” deputies and detectives of The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

“The level of average experience and training among our deputies is ever increasing at this time,” he said. “We continue to get better at patrol, deterrence and investigation. Our people truly understand the criminology of this parish.”
