LAPLACE — A LaPlace man has been jailed, accused of raping a 13-year-old girl.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said deputies responded to the St. James Parish Hospital emergency room at 10:59 a.m. Thursday when hospital personnel reported a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted.
The victim told deputies her mother’s boyfriend sexually assaulted her Thursday morning at her residence after her mother had left for work, Tregre said in a release.
“Deputies identified the boyfriend as Delcome Evans, 36, of LaPlace,” Tregre said.
“After the incident, Evans left the residence.”
The victim told deputies she told her 16-year-old sister what happened, according to Tregre, and her sister called her mother at work. The mother came home at that time and took her daughter to the hospital.
“The victim told investigators that she did what Evans told her to do, because she feared that he would hurt her or her sister if she did not do what he said,” Tregre said.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Evans for forcible rape and arrested him Friday morning at his Glendale Drive residence.
Evans remains in custody in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
Authorities said the victim lives on the East Bank of St. John the Baptist Parish, and it is not believed she was admitted to the hospital following the reported assault.
