Nugent earns parish’s top teach recognition

BOUTTE — Gerard Nugent has been selected as the 2014-15 St. Charles Parish High School Teacher of the Year.

Nugent has a Masters of Arts in Teaching and Learning from NOVA Southeastern University.

He has taught for 18 years and has been with St. Charles Parish School System for four years. He is currently Hahnville High School EOC U.S. history teacher and head softball coach.

His leadership positions at HHS are U.S. history data team leader, social studies literacy team representative, Scholarship Committee member and School Climate and Culture Committee member.

He is also a  mentor in the new apprenticeship program, received facilitative leadership training last summer, AP Certified in U.S. history, LDC certified, social studies representative on the ACT committee, volunteer member of HAT, second year as supervisor for a student teacher and presenter at professional development sessions on data, compass and literacy teams.

Nugent was the HHS teacher of the year,  January 2012 HHS teacher of the month, 2006, 2008, 2009 Metro Softball coach of the year, 2006-2010 district softball coach of the year and 2008 State Softball Coach of the year.
