LAFAYETTE — St. Charles Satellite Center in Luling recently won $20,000 in scholarships during the Louisiana Business Challenge at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette.

Winning first and a $10,000 scholarship, representing Louisiana blue crabs, were team members of Gulfside Delicacy, Paxton Zeringue, Allie Matherne and Shelbie Guidry.

In the Louisiana Business Challenge, students were asked to form a company or business and create a promotional plan on how to better promote Louisiana seafood.

Students had the option to either work on better promoting Louisiana seafood as a whole, or the teams could focus on a specific seafood. The challenge’s main focus was on local grocery stores and creating a promotional plan that would show them an easy way to promote their business and products via social media.

The students met with several professionals from the seafood industry, completed a 30-page promotional plan for Louisiana Wild Caught Seafood and delivered a 30-minute pitch for the challenge.

Of six teams invited to the state finals, three teams came from St. Charles Satellite Center.
